The Annual Review of Drinking-water Quality in New Zealand

What is the Annual Review?

Ann Review cover

Every year, the Ministry of Health undertakes an Annual Review of community drinking-water supplies to see if they have complied with the drinking-water standards for the past 12 months.

The survey is carried out by ESR for the Ministry, using the WINZ database to gather the information from water suppliers and District Health Boards. The data is collected for over 2,000 supplies, audited by DWAs, validated, analysed and reported to the Ministry, a process that takes several months.

The Ministry in turn examine the report and discuss issues with interested parties. The report is then printed and published, in hard copy and on the Ministry website. Links to these reports. An Annual Review therefore, is typically made public about 12 months after the end of the survey year.

You can see the most recently published compliance for individual supplies on this website. Click to choose a supply.
